Launch Event Tuesday 11th September 6.30 – 9.00pm
Art Workshops and Talks on Sustainability Sat 15th September 6.30-9.00pm
Second Time Around is more than just an art show – it’s an art event celebrating all things recycled. The Premise of the show is ‘One person’s trash, another person’s treasure’. The show has over 35 artists and crafters involved, and will act like an art gallery show and a pop up shop or market– with buyers being able purchase items on the spot.
Things you can expect to see:
Purses made from lace doily’s. Furniture made from old wooden pallets. Vinyl records turned into bags and bowls. Old damaged books turned into journals and notebooks. Old cassette tape rubbish bins. Sock monkeys. Jewellery made from old clock parts, old coins, paper, old toys and computer parts! Traditional artwork painted on alternative surfaces. Sculptures made from all manner of bits n bobs and junk!
The opening night will feature a SAW player (yes the tool – played as an instrument) and some drummers who drum on old paint pails and trash cans! The second late night will feature discussions on various sustainability issues. Artist Anna Harding who uses only plant juices to develop her photos will display her work and talk about her unique method. Eryn Gribble will host a talk about Dumpster diving. And there will be a free art workshop of how to make a cute little container out of just a coke-a-cola bottle. You can take this home with you!Artist Eryn Gribble a.k.a Salvage sister is a big fan of the term – upcyling. She describes this as “’the process of converting waste, or redundant products into something of a higher quality or value – weather that be monetary, social, aesthetic or ecological”.
