What is a zine? An introductory talk on zines and zine making by Kylie Buck and Bryce Galloway.

Kylie Buck began making zines at art school as part of collaborative art classes. Her zines include ‘Dangerous Liaisons  (with Chantelle Gribbon) and ‘Pencil pals’. While working at Wellington City Libraries Kylie initiated the Library’s zine collection. Kylie co-organised the first Wellington Zinefest in 2007, was sole organiser in 2008 and also involved in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Bryce Galloway makes the long running zine ‘Incredibly Hot Sex With Hideous People’. As a lecturer at Massey University’s School of Fine Arts Bryce has taught a zine making paper Zines, Scenes and Economy of Means for the past few years.Drawing on their experiences and research as zine makers and zinefest organisers, and also as, respectively, a librarian/archivist and academic Kylie and Bryce will discuss what in their opinion makes a zine a zine. The talk will be followed by a workshop focused on creating your first zine and considering audience and distribution.
