artist interview- Sam Kahu

Have you had the chance to visit the Monochrome exhibition currently on show in our gallery? Today we're talking to talented Rotorua based artist Sam Kahu.

Q: What’s your favourite artwork in the exhibition?
A: Uh maybe my "don't be a pussy" drawing probably because I'm trying to subliminally tell myself that haha.

Q: Why do you work with a limited palette?
A: I like pens.

Q: Share an artist or artwork you find inspiring?
A: I've always really liked Alex Pardee's artworks. I like the surrealism.

Q: If we looked in your pencil case what would we find?
A: Pens that are out of ink. Rubbish. Random things that don't apply haha.

Q: Do you have a go-to snack you like to eat while getting creative?
A: Any sandwich and a cup of tea.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
A: Nothing will work unless you do.
