Matchbox Studios specialises in collaborative group exhibitions. We aim to make exhibiting in Wellington accessible to artists of all backgrounds and disciplines through these diverse and eclectic exhibitions. Each themed group exhibition usually showcases at least 10 artists, which makes for a wide audience and one popping opening night!

We've got over 100 exhibitions under our belt, so we're experienced in displaying and promoting your work to its best potential. You’re in safe hands and good company. We can’t wait to work with you!

Exhibition Program

Word-Up is an exhibition for typographers to showcase their work. The lettering can be on any theme and created digitally, by hand or a combination of both. This exhibition is perfect for large posters but we would also love to include publications. Wellington, national and international artists are welcome to apply.

We are currently looking for visual artists to exhibit in a group show with the overall theme of 'monochrome' meaning images created in black and white or in varying tones of only one colour. This is an ideal show for drawers, photographers, and printmakers. Art can be in any form including illustration, painting, photography, and sculpture. Wellington, national and international artists are welcome to apply.

Calling all artist who do pet portraits or love to draw domestic animals. If cats, dogs and the odd bunny are your thing then help us fill the gallery up with cuteness. This show is perfect for illustrators, painters, photographers and it would even be wonderful to include some soft sculpture. Basically, if it's a cute fluffy animal we want to know about it. Wellington, national and international artists are welcome to apply.
